Batik Girl is The R&D Studio’s first animated short film.

It went on a successful festival circuit in 2018-2019, having premiered in 17 different countries, received official selections in 28 international film festivals, and won awards in Japan, Chile, and the USA.

The story is about a newly orphaned young girl, struggling to adjust to living with her grandmother, after the death of her parents. Her drawings of a girl and a shapeshifter magically come to life within a surreal world of a batik painting. From it, she learns to conquer her fears and embrace her new life.
