TOP 10: Fave Films Of All Time

Films are my life. I live to watch films. And I have a lot of favourite films, but in this post, I’ll list you my TOP 10 FAVOURITE FILMS OF ALL TIME!

1. STAND BY ME (1986)

Columbia Pictures

This film changed my life. I always wanted to be a writer since I was 10, but my parents disapprove. The lead character, Gordie (played by Wil Wheaton), is also a wannabe writer with parents who don’t care about him. But in the end, his best friend Chris (played by River Phoenix) assured him that he was going to be a great writer. I researched this film for my Bachelor’s degree thesis.

2. PRETTY IN PINK (1986)

Paramount Pictures

A classic teen romance film about a lower-class girl with a killer style (played by Molly Ringwald), who falls in love with an upper-class rich boy (played by Andrew McCarthy, which defies the social classes of high school. I also wrote my Bachelor’s degree thesis on this film.

3. HARRY POTTER FILM SERIES (2001-2011)

Warner Bros. Pictures

Witchcraft and wizardry, light magic and the dark arts, Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans and Chocolate Frogs, these eight Harry Potter films are the epitomai of my childhood. And who didn’t cry when the film series ended? And I felt like I grew up with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. Ahh memories…

4. THE LOST BOYS (1987)

Warner Bros.

A cult classic and my favourite vampire movie ever! Two brothers, Michael and Sam (played by Jason Patric and Corey Haim) move to Santa Carla, “The Murder Capital of the World” and stumble upon a group of bikers, who are actually vampires, led by the ever-so-badass, David (played by Kiefer Sutherland). P.S: I never watched the sequels because…NO.

5. THE HUNGER GAMES FILM SERIES (2012-2015)

Lionsgate Films

War and rebellion in the dystopian future, these four films bring out one of the best heroines in cinematic history, Katniss (played by Jennifer Lawrence). I enjoyed reading the books, and I most definitely enjoyed it when the films came out.

6. 500 DAYS OF SUMMER (2009)

Fox Searchlight Pictures

It is brilliantly written and beautifully shot. I empathize with Tom (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt), whose failed relationship with Summer (played by Zooey Deschanel) is messing up with his mind and life. And the fact that the whole film is not in chronological order makes it even more special.

7. THE THREE FLAVOURS CORNETTO TRILOGY
[SHAUN OF THE DEAD (2004), HOT FUZZ (2007) AND AT WORLD’S END (2013)]

Universal Pictures

Hilarious, wonderfully written and has consistent running gags in three separate films that have different stories. Edgar Wright directed and wrote three amazing movies that are all equally funny and equally enjoyable.

8. THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS (1993)

Buena Vista Pictures

“This is Halloween! Halloween! HALLOWEEN!” and “What’s this? WHAT’S THIS? This colour everywhere”. This is such a fun movie and the songs are damn awesome too. I LOOOVVVEEE the soundtrack and I’d sing along to it all the time, especially when I’m watching the movie every Halloween… and every Christmas.

9. RESTLESS (2011)

Sony Pictures Classics

A sweet yet depressing film about Enoch (played by Henry Hopper) who’s coping with the death of his parents and enjoys crashing strangers’ funerals, eventually finds solace in Annabel (played by Mia Wasikowska), a girl dying of cancer. Though the reviews are mainly negative for this movie, I actually cried watching it. And I don’t know, I guess I relate to the characters. That’s why this film is very dear to me.

10. A CLOCKWORK ORANGE (1971)

Warner Bros.

Arguably one of the cinema’s greatest films, the film deals with Alex (played by Malcolm McDowell) and his “droogs” (Nadsat for “friends”) who loves ultraviolence, until Alex gets caught by the police and volunteers himself to undergo a behaviour modification technique. I don’t know why I like this movie. It’s a classic, yes. And I guess I like the whole utopian psychedelic vibe.
